Everyone has a dominant side of their body. It is also true in your face. 

If you look closely you will notice one eye may be smaller than the other or one side of your lips may be be higher. A good photographer knows how to work with lighting to create a symmetric appearance. 

You can work with your makeup to create the same illusion. Here are some tips to make your asymmetrical face into a symmetrical one!

Contouring and Highlighting -

By contouring your cheek bones you can bring your eyes up or down. Contouring higher on your cheeks will shorten the distance between your eyes and cheek bones and vice versa. Beware not to contour too high on your cheek bones. You want a natural look.

Eye Brows -

If one eye is smaller then the other try plucking your eye brows to create the same size brow bone. If you use this tactic you may want to have a professional wax for you. You don't want to make the mistake of over plucking or making a more uneven look.

Eye Shadow -

To be sure you do not over extend your eye shadow. Following your bottom water line up to the end of your eyebrow gives you a great guide. Your eye shadow should bring your eyes up.

Focus on your good features -

Instead of focusing on uneven features highlight your good features! If you have beautiful lips, add color to them. If you have beautiful eyes draw attention to them.

Remember, most people do not notice asymmetrical features. We are our own worst judges!

Ready | Set | Hollywood!

We have been planning our advertising campaign photo shoot for months. We had a dress designed, rented a studio and props, and hired a team of professionals to pull the concept together.

Our idea was to create a Hollywood Red Carpet event. Obviously, not being in Hollywood made it difficult. With hiring the best in the industry, we were able to pull off the project.

Fashion First!

We brought Charlotte Davis and her team a photo from a red carpet event and ask her to recreate a designer dress. Charlotte hand stitched each jewel on the top part of the dress. She made a full feather short/long skirt with amazing detailed touches throughout the dress. Charlotte's use of different fabrics added so much dimension and visual eye candy! Contouring 101

Contouring is great for creating a perfectly sculpted face. With contouring you can create the illusion of a longer, slimmer nose, defined cheek bones, a slimmer face, add dimension to your face, and/or an elongated neck.

If you use a liquid foundation to cover skin imperfections it also covers any natural shading on your face. You can use a bronzer, or chose a matte eye shadow a little darker than your foundation. Use a dense angled brush and be sure to blend.

You want your face to look natural and free of defined lines.    

Longer, slimmer nose -

Just below the inner corners of your eyes, lightly brush on your bronzer on both sides all the way down your nose. Follow with a highlighting powder down the bridge of your nose. Contouring can help make a flat nose look more defined and a crooked nose look straight and even.

Defined cheek bones - 

Find your natural bone structure. Bronzing right underneath the cheek bone start from your hair line and contour to about the middle of your face. A great tip is to draw an imaginary line from the highest arch in your eyebrow straight down the cheek bone. This is a great guide to let you know how far on your face to contour.

Slimmer face - 

Contour your cheek bones as described above. Add some bronzer to your temples and along your jaw line. Use blush on the apples of your cheeks and highlight around the eye with a highlighting powder.

1. Wrong Foundation Color - 

Whether you have recently been tanning or it's winter, your foundation color should change with your skin color. When testing a foundation, instead of trying it on the back of your hand, try testing it on your jaw line. One of the most obvious makeup mistakes is looking like a ghost or looking like you are wearing a mask!

2. Sloppy Lip Liner - 

Lip liner is meant to give a crisp sharp look to your lipstick. Your lip liner should be applied in an even steady line. Double check that you stay with the natural line of your lips. Also be sure that both sides of your lips match. You can really throw off the balance of your face with uneven lip liner.

3. Peeling Liquid Eye Liner - 

Liquid eye liner can make your eyes look beautiful. When applying liquid eye liner you need to be precise and steady. Your eye liner should be thin and straight on the lid. You eye liner shouldn't peel and flake off. Find a liquid eye liner that lasts all day. If you buy an eye liner that flakes off, THROW IT AWAY!

1. Makeup Brushes - 

To create a flawless and professional look brushes are a key factor. Make the investment in nice quality brushes. As long as you take care of the brushes they can last many, many years. You should add a foundation brush, eye shadow brush, blending brush, angled brush, powder brush, and a blush brush to your collection.

2. Face and Eye Primer - 

Before you apply any foundation or makeup you should start with a primer. Primer helps foundation, blush, and eye shadow look smoother and more even. Primer also helps your makeup stay on throughout the day. Primer on the eyes prevents creasing in eye shadow and makes the color more vibrant.

3. Foundation - 

Foundation is a personal choice. Liquid foundation creates a flawless, blank canvas for your face. We recommend using a foundation brush to apply your foundation. Sponges soak up and waste liquid foundation while brushes apply it to your skin and create an even, flawless look. We have met many woman who don't like to use liquid foundation. For those woman, there are liquid to powder foundations and powder foundations available.

4. Powder - 

Whether you use a liquid foundation or not a loose powder or a pressed powder should be part of your makeup routine. Powder evens out the skin, help with oil control and shine, and sets your makeup for the day.

5. Blush - 

Choose a blush that matches your makeup style. Apply it to the apple of your cheeks and up toward your temples. Blush adds color and dimension to your face.   

6. Eye Shadow - 

Beginners should start with a neutral palette for an everyday look. Find a light matte color to use all over your lid, a medium neutral color for the corners, and a darker color for the crease.

7. Eye Liner - 

Use a basic black eye liner. Make sure you apply your eye liner straight and even. There many tricks you can do with just a basic black eye liner such as smudging.

8. Mascara - 

Use a black mascara. Never pump your wand in and out of the container. There is always plenty of mascara on the wand with one up and down movement. Apply your mascara in slow long strokes.

Find a nice neutral color lip liner. Lip liner helps prevent your lipstick from running into the little lines above your lips and also creates a nice sharp line

10. Lip Stick - 

Lip stick adds the finishing touch to your makeup. A nice glossy lipstick adds a plumpy look to your lips and a little extra shine!
